I Quit My Job
The cat's finally out the bag. I quit my full-time social media marketing job at ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and I've never felt more liberated. I've decided to pursue my side gigs full-time, and I am now a full-time blogger and a part-time wedding makeup artist. I'm also launching my social media consulting business. Read more information below about my personal brands as well as how I came to this decision.
My Journey
Ever since August of 2022, I've been debating quitting my job at ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital where I worked full-time in social media marketing. I eventually decided not to quit, and I regretted that decision every day afterwards. I felt a lot of anxiety.
Every year, at the start of the new year, I sit down and take time to reflect on my decisions and goals for the previous year as well as the upcoming year. My mom is someone I always go to for words of wisdom. I discussed with her my thought process on quitting my job and explained to her that I was scared to quit because was I not only worried about not being able to take care of myself, but I was scared of not being able to provide for my family. I'm the breadwinner for my family, and that thought alone scared me. However, she reminded me that I can't put my faith & trust in money, that I have to put my faith & trust in God and him alone. That statement was very eye-opening for me and it made me remember the scripture, "Give your burdens to the Lord and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall." Psalms 55:22 NLT.
With that being said, I decided to quit my job and my last day at ALSAC was Friday, February 17th. It was a very bittersweet moment for me. I knew this job wasn't the end to my journey, but I didn't expect the end of this journey to come so soon. The Lord has bigger and better plans for my life, and I'm ready for everything he has for me.
This is a reminder to take a chance on yourself. Do not let doubt and fear stand in the way of your dreams. Stand confident in Christ and he will lead the way.
Now all you folks out there debating on going full-time as a creative, I want you to know that it's taken a lot of hard work to get where I am today. I'm in a confident spot mentally and financially to take a leap of faith. Pray about it before you make any decision. My mom always told me, "Whatever you feel peace about is how you know that's what God wants you to do, so long as it aligns with his word." And remember, "Faith without works is dead." James 2:26.
